Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. It originated with the Native Americans, and is, according to ESPN, America’s first sport.

The Vestavia Lacrosse Organization (“VLO”)  is the governing body for all youth and high school lacrosse teams in the community of Vestavia participating in the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association (“GBYLA”).  VLO’s overall purpose, as stated in its by-laws, is to provide the youth and high school players of Vestavia Hills with a quality lacrosse program and to teach the ideals of teamwork, tenacity, self-discipline, and good sportsmanship while developing the fundamentals of lacrosse.  Given its Native American roots and traditions, VLO encourages all VLO youth and coaches to “Honor the Game;” i.e., play the game with class, respect, and good sportsmanship.

VLO is a member organization of the GBYLA, and must abide by GBYLA rules and by-laws. The GBYLA is the umbrella governing body for all community youth and high school lacrosse programs in the greater Birmingham area and in other various locations in the state of Alabama. It oversees both a fall and spring lacrosse season.  VLO is also a member organization of the Vestavia Hills Parks and Recreation Board, and must abide by its rules and by-laws.

VLO is governed by a Board consisting of Vestavia parents and VHHS coaches who are committed to the mission stated above, and to growing the game of lacrosse in the Vestavia area.
